About Anselmo Mendes Pardusco
The winemaking vocation can be inspired by various factors, such as a love for nature and the land, an interest in gastronomy and culture, and, of course, family tradition. For Anselmo Mendes, a Portuguese oenologist and wine producer renowned for his ability to craft high-quality wines and his dedication to using indigenous varieties and traditional practices, this calling emerged at a young age. Growing up in a winemaking family in Monção, a village located on the border between Galicia and Portugal, he naturally developed an interest and passion for the world of wine and is now one of the leading figures in the Portuguese wine industry. He boasts an extensive collection of authentic wines that highlight the character of each Portuguese region and is also responsible for advising numerous wineries both within and outside Portugal.
Among the wide array of wines presented by Anselmo Mendes Pardusco is a wine that champions the traditional winemaking methods of the Vinho Verde region. This red wine is distinguished by its light colour, low alcohol content, and excellent ageing potential. Crafted from the local varieties brancellao, pedral, and caíño tinto, sustainable agriculture is practised, and the harvest is conducted manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. Once in the winery, the grapes are destemmed and undergo cold skin maceration. Fermentation takes place at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks, and the malolactic fermentation is completed in its entirety.
With a name derived from the Latin "parduscus," meaning "dark brown," Anselmo Mendes Pardusco is a true statement of intent. A fresh, fluid, and elegant wine that pays homage to the origins of Vinho Verde.
