Anselmo Mendes Contacto Alvarinho is a white wine macerated with skins and made with the Albariño variety by Anselmo Mendes in Vinho Verde, in the Minho region (Portugal).
Working on the family estate in the town of Monçao, Anselmo Mendes is a winemaker known around the world for his innovative spirit. A great champion of the local native varieties like Albariño, Loureiro and Avesso, he has been able to combine tradition with modernity better than anyone and as a result he produces great wines that perfectly express the land they come from.
Anselmo Mendes Contacto Alvarinho comes from vines planted in deep pebble soils. These are native vines that enjoy the influence of the Atlantic climate and are traditionally cultivated. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are manually harvested and quickly taken to the winery in 20 kg boxes.
In the winery the grapes are destemmed and undergo a brief maceration. After pressing, the Anselmo Mendes Contacto Alvarinho must is cold clarified and then begins a long fermentation at a low temperature of 14 to 18ºC in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine ages for 3 months on its lees with periodic battonages.
Made by the great expert of the Albariño variety, Anselmo Mendes Contacto Alvarinho is a complex, mineral white wine with a bitter touch that is very typical of the variety.
