4 Monos Aguja del Fraile is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Garnacha Tinta variety by 4 Monos Viticultores in the D.O. Madrid.
4 Monos Viticultores is a group made up of four winegrowers whose mission is to showcase the potential of the Sierra de Gredos. This is an area in the Community of Madrid with high altitude vineyards mostly planted with Garnacha and some Albillo and Cariñena that grow with a very unique character here. This area is an aspiring D.O. producing wines that are beginning to catch the attention of great experts.
4 Monos Aguja del Fraile comes from 4 small plots in the town of Cadalso de los Vidrios (Sierra de Gredos). These vines are aged between 60 and 80 years old and planted on decomposed granite soils at an altitude of 850 to 880 metres. The team use environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
When the grapes reach the winery, 4 Monos Aguja del Fraile is vinified by plot in small tanks. Firstly, it cold macerates and the whole clusters spontaneously ferment for almost a month. The wine then spends 14-15 months in French and Austrian oak barrels.
4 Monos Aguja del Fraile is an example of the good work being done in Sierra de Gredos. When it is well-handled, the Garnacha variety reveals an unrivalled freshness and delicacy.
