More about Acústic Celler

When we mention the project Acústic Celler we have to mention its creator, Albert Jané, who leaves the family winery, where he shared tasks with his brother Gerart, and delves into the lands of Montsant.
He started the project in 2003 with the purchase of 1.5 hectares of vineyard in Capçanes, within D.O. Montsant. Since then he has been extending them to the current 32 hectares of owned vineyards distributed in small plots. He also owns 8 hectares of vineyard in DOQ Priorat, where he carries out his other winemaking project, Ritme Celler.
However, Albert has always been very restless, so recently, and after the experience and success in the denominations of origin Montsant and Priorat, he returned to Penedès, to his origins in Mas Vilella, with his brother Gerart. He returns to the 16th century farmhouse at the foothills of Sierra del Montmell, in Bisbal del Penedès. Here he created the Autóctono wines, which will be released on the market without denomination of origin.
It is a brand that he registered a few years ago and that focuses on wines of their own varieties, seeking the local essence with a slightly technological project. Their aim is to create single-vineyard wines; the same philosophy they apply in Acústic Celler.
History of the winery
The winery is located in the small village of Marçà, in an old winery of the 198th century with underground wine presses covered in typical Catalan tiles that were used to make wines in bulk. Currently, this is where the barrels are located, in ideal temperature and humidity conditions. It also has a wooden press, like in olden times, which preserves a lot of the identity and purity of the wines. The entire process is done by gravity, and with all the necessary elements to avoid excessive oxygenation.
The winery has 32 hectares of vineyard distributed in small plots of vineyards located within the geographical demarcation of D.O. Montsant, in the municipalities of Els Guiamets, Marçà, Capçanes, Cornudella, El Masroig, Darmòs and Falset, all of them mostly planted with old Grenache and Carignan (Samsó) vines, aged between 35 and 80 years. They are located at altitudes ranging from 300 to 750 metres, and they are cultivated on very poor, stony soils, mostly planted organically. A lot of the old vines were originally planted to be cultivated with animal-powered tilling, but now they are cultivated manually, as they cannot be worked on mechanically either.
Work philosophy
The first thing that gets your attention is the name of the winery, "Acústic" (acoustic), which Albert understands as a wine without electricity; this is, music that only uses instruments that produce sounds in a natural way, as opposed to how they produce them with electrical or electronic intervention.
Its philosophy claims and seeks the roots and value of the traditional viticulture in comparison with the globalization of modern wines, full of make-up and technology.
For Albert, this is a return to the roots and sometimes to the imperfection of local things, where the deepest environment of an old and untameable vineyard expressed itself, in return of fine, personal and elegant wines, that express the characteristics of the grape and the terroir with all naturalness.
Wines from Acústic Celler
The range of Wines from Acústic Celler is comprised by the line Acústic, a white, a rosé and a red, and by two more reds: Braó and Auditori.
Acústic Blanco is made from several vineyards in the area of La Serra d'Almòs, Els Guiamets, Marçà and Cornudella del Montsant, located between 300 and 700 metres of altitude, with an age between 40 and 80 years, planted on poor and stony soils with a combination of clay, stony sand and boulders. It is made from 60% of White Grenache that gives it structure, character and ageing capacity; 10% of Red Grenache planted in high areas that give it notes of exotic fruits, acidity and freshness; 25% of Maccabeu that gives it finesse and fruitiness; and 5% of Pansal that provides structure and ageing capacity. It is a wine where the grape is truly respected, looking for varietal expressiveness to perform a skin maceration for 2 days. 30% ferments in new French oak barrels at a low temperature and the other 70% ferments in stainless steel for around 4 weeks at a very low temperature to preserve the fineness and fruitiness of the grape. It is a wine with a complex aroma, very expressive, of wild Mediterranean herbs such as fennel and rosemary, dried fruit, citrus, and white flowers; tasty, with good acidity, fresh, fine and fruity.
Acústic Tinto is born from old vines of 35 to 65 years old, cultivated on poor, hard soils, with a lot of stones of a clayey and sandy profile. It is made from 40% Grenache that gives it fruitiness, freshness and fineness, and a 60% Carignan that gives it colour, structure, black fruit and spices. It has been aged for 10-11 months in French oak barrels of fine grain and a very light roasting. It is a balanced wine, pure, with aroma of red fruit, violet, herbs and spices; very fruity in the mouth, long, with good acidity, fine and full.
Acústic Rosé is made from 40% Red Grenache, 40% Carignan and 20% Red Grenache, where 20% of the must is fermented in new French oak barrels at a low temperature and 80% in stainless steel deposits for 4 weeks at a very low temperature. After this, the wine is left on its lees for 6 months. It is a rosé of powerful aroma of red fruit, like strawberry and cherry, very ripe fruit and notes of Mediterranean grass; tasty, fresh and silky in the mouth, balanced and elegant, with ageing capacity.
Braó Tinto, meaning "bravery" in Spanish, is made from very old vines of Grenache and Carignan from 3 farms in Capçanes and Marçà, with an age between 60 and 80 years, planted on poor and stony soils with a combination of clay and sand. It is comprised of 30% Grenache that gives it fineness, fruit and complexity, and 70% of Carignan that gives it colour, structure and masculinity. It goes through the alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels with a very light toasting, and it remains in them for approximately 11-12 months. This wine is not filtered or clarified to preserve its purest identity. It offers an aroma of ripe fruit, sweet spices, very expressive, complex and elegant. Very tasty on the palate, fruity, with fine tannins, combining depth, power and elegance.
Auditori Tinto is a single-variety Grenache wine from 3 small vineyards that are between 70 and 90 years old, cultivated on very poor, stony soils, and with a combination of clay, sand, pebbles and slate. With utmost respect for the grapes, they seek the maximum varietal expressiveness, with a maceration of 15 days and a subsequent alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in single-use French oak barrels, with light toasting, where it remains for 13 months. This wine is not filtered or clarified to preserve its purest identity. It is a wine with a very intense cherry colour with purple tones, with a very expressive, mineral aroma, of sweet spices, sweet fruit and white flowers. In the mouth it is very structured, with good acidity, fine, with satin tannins and Mediterranean spiced fruit.
