Soalheiro Primeiras Vinhas is a barrel-aged white wine made with the Albariño variety by the Quinta de Soalheiro winery in the Vinho Verde denomination, in Miño (Portugal).
Quinta de Soalheiro is a leading international winery in the production of Albariño wines. And that is because its founder, João António Cerdeira, and his father, António Esteves Ferreira were the first to plant strains of this variety in 1974, releasing the first Alvarinho wine in 1982 in the town of Melgaço. Pure Portuguese vines whose brand name Soalheiro comes from the excellent sun exposure in the vineyards that carry the same name, a sunny place.
Protected by a chain of mountains that create the conditions needed for the Alvarinho grapes to ripen perfectly, Soalheiro Primeiras Vinhas is a very special white wine. These are old vines over 40 years old that are cultivated manually and in line with the principles of organic viticulture. The harvest is also carried out manually in small boxes that are quickly taken to the winery.
In the winery, the Soalheiro Primeiras Vinhas grapes are pressed and the resulting must is decanted for 48 hours. Then fermentation takes place with most of the must in stainless steel tanks at a very low temperature and the rest (about 15%) in used oak barrels. It finally rests with its fine lees and partially ages in large oak barrels.
Part of the Soalheiros family, Primeiras Vinhas is a full-bodied, fresh and complex Albariño white wine that comes from the winery’s first vineyards.
