Niepoort Drink Me Nat Cool Branco is a natural white wine made by Niepoort with the Arinto, Avesso, Azal Branco and Loureira Blanca varieties in the DOC Douro in Portugal.
With Dutch origins, Niepoort is undoubtedly the most world renowned family-run winery in Portugal, mainly for their Port wines but also for the great red and white wines they produce in the Douro region. One of the many creations of their main winemaker, Dirk van der Niepoort is Nat Cool, a project where several producers have joined forces to create light, easy-to-drink wines in 1-litre bottles.
Niepoort Drink Me Nat Cool Branco comes from 40 to 100 year old vineyards planted on chalky clay soils at an altitude of 80-100 metres above sea level. They are cultivated using organic agriculture without chemicals and the grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum point of ripeness.
When it reaches the winery, Niepoort Drink Me Nat Cool Branco is vinified with minimal intervention. Firstly the grapes are gently pressed and the resulting must is fermented in stainless steel tanks for 5 weeks. Malolactic fermentation and aging takes place in the same stainless steel tanks for 6 months. Finally, it is bottled without filtering.
Niepoort Drink Me Nat Cool Branco is a “cool and funky” natural wine. An innovative concept initiated by the prestigious Dirk van der Niepoort showcasing the character of the Douro’s native varieties from a modern, natural and ingenious point of view.
