Characteristics Niepoort Charme
Niepoort Charme is a red wine coupage made mainly with Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca and other varieties from the DOC Douro made by Niepoort.
Niepoort is a winery that has been making Port wines since 1842. It is run by the Niepoort family who have worked with Noriega to make their wines for many years. Since the very beginning, they have worked to unite tradition with modernity. They use traditional Portuguese techniques such as grape treading, fermentation in cement deposits and aging in pipes, 550-litre port aging barrels, whilst also using new technologies that allow them to take the best care of the grapes. The winery has vines in different locations, some of which are more than 100 years old, and they have an aging room, Serpa Pinta, in the town of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The Niepoort Charme vineyards are very old and are located in the Mendiz Valley, on the banks of the Pinhão River. The soils are shale-based and the strains are between 70 and more than 100 years old. The vines are trained using the Double Guyot and Cordon de Royat systems. They are harvested manually.
In the winery, the Niepoort Charme vintage passes over the selection table and then the entire cluster is gently squeezed. They are placed in stone presses and tread to extract colour and compounds both in pre-fermentation maceration and during fermentation. Fermentation begins in the presses and continues in barrels. Finally, the wine is aged for 15 to 19 months in French oak barrels.
Niepoort Charme is an elegant and balanced wine made in stone presses.
Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product
Niepoort Charme 2015 has clean aromas of cherries and raspberries accompanied by a subtle rustic character in the background. On the palate it is pure, with a pleasant freshness, balance and structure. It is likely to have a good aging potential.
This winery has belonged to the Van der Niepoort since 1848, when it was ceded by Eduard Krebe, who founded it six years earlier. Currently, the company is directed by Rolf van der Niepoort and his son, Dirk, the fifth generation. It is one of the most renowned Portuguese wine companies in the world, both for its quality —only 16 vintages classified as Vintage in 60 years— and for the great personality and inimitable style of its wines.
