Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Branco 2020
DOC Alentejo
(Alentejo)
Extensive and varied, Alentejo is one of the largest and most traditional wine regions in Portugal. Located in the southeast of Portugal, wines made here are known for being rustic and authentic and a faithful picture of the local agrarian lifestyle. Under these premises, new generation winemakers are making a name for themselves on the Portuguese and international wine scene. One of these winemakers is Miguel Barroso Louro, son of Quinta do Mouro’s Miguel Louro, who has inherited the same provocative and controversial character as his father and when it comes to winemaking, market trends don’t matter. He wants to recover an ancient tradition with native varieties and reflecting the different types of soils.
One of the wines he has released since setting up his own project in 2010 is Miguel Barroso Louro Apelido Branco. A white wine made with the native Arinto, Alvarinho, Verdelho, Gouveio, Roupeiro and Rabigato varieties planted in the Estremoz area, which are cultivated in a respectful way to preserve the natural balance of the vine and the terroir. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand in their best condition, they are macerated with the skins for 24 hours and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 14-16ºC. Finally, it is bottled without aging.
A trained winemaker who is open to new experiences, Miguel Junior surprises us with each of his wines. Barroso Louro Apelido Branco is undoubtedly a good introduction. A blend of local varieties that is fresh and lively.
Miguel Barroso Louro Apelido Branco 2019 is an aromatic white wine with complex fragrances of tropical fruit, citrus notes and mineral hints. On the palate it is very lively, fresh and vibrant. A wine with convincing acidity, an austere mid-palate and a long and persistent finish.
