Maruja Manzanilla has an oxidative character with citrus aromas, notes of iodine and hints of honey and curry. On the palate it is saline, persistent and very elegant with flavours of nuts, toasted bread and a pleasant bitter finish.
Maruja Manzanilla is a fortified wine made with the Palomino variety by the Juan Piñero winery in the D.O. Manzanilla- SanLucar de Barrameda (Cádiz).
Juan Piñero is a traditional winery located in the town of Sanlúcar de Barrrameda in Cadiz. Founded in 1925, it started out as a supplier to Hidalgo-La Gitana. However, in 2016 they began bottling and selling their own wines under the strict rules of Manzanilla production. To do this, they acquired the last solera Bodegas Terry had with Maruja Manzanilla and set up 7 criaderas, in the most traditional Sanlucar style.
Maruja Manzanilla comes from a plot located in the city of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, at the mouth of the Guadalquivir river. A plot of the Palomino variety planted on limestone soils that are very resistant to dryness and very good at storing water. They use traditional agriculture and the harvest is carried out late.
Maruja Manzanilla ferments with native yeasts in a press in the winery itself. Alcohol is then added until it reaches an alcohol content of 15.5%. It is then added to the dynamic criaderas and soleras system. A total of 8 criaderas with only 8 to 10 bottlings per year, to encourage the longevity of the flor. It goes on sale with an average age of 8 to 9 years.
Maruja Manzanilla is created through faithful dedication to the Sanlucar tradition. An elegant, saline and very persistent Manzanilla that is true to its roots.
