About Lusco Pazo Piñeiro

Historically, the phrase "the jewel in the crown" originated from the genuine pieces of jewellery and precious stones that monarchs guarded to showcase their ultimate power, wealth, and prestige. Over time, the concept evolved into the perfect metaphor to denote that which holds the greatest value, care, and distinction within a heritage. In the heart of Galicia, this white wine is precisely that; the most treasured asset of the house, a limited production wine that seeks not to be just another one, but to rise as the noble, complex, and enduring emblem of a historic vineyard.

From the town of Salvaterra de Miño, in the subzone of Condado do Tea (the innermost region of the province of Pontevedra), Pazo de Lusco crafts this wine under the designation of DO Rías Baixas. The grapes come exclusively from the old vineyards surrounding the historic 16th-century manor, a stately environment where the plants sink their roots into granitic, sandy, and mineral-rich soils. The climate in this corner combines the Atlantic influence with a transitional Mediterranean character, offering rainy winters but notably warmer and drier summers than on the coast. Here, the albariño variety is cultivated under a philosophy of minimal intervention and absolute respect for the surrounding biodiversity, culminating in a rigorous manual harvest.

In the winery, the project (now supported by the expertise of the González Byass group) is handled with artisanal precision to honour each vintage. To protect the grape, the bunches are first stored in a refrigerated room before passing through a stringent selection table. Seeking the perfect balance between freshness and complexity, part of the grapes is cold macerated while the other is directly pressed. After careful settling, the must ferments with its native yeasts in French oak barrels of 350 and 500 litres. In these same barrels, the wine undergoes a patient ageing on its fine lees for 10 months, completing its subsequent refinement in stainless steel tanks before being bottled.

Lusco Pazo Piñeiro is the demonstration that great white wines can also challenge time with nobility, sophistication, and the subtle touch of fine wood. A broad, mineral, and profoundly elegant albariño, designed for those moments when one seeks to uncork the most authentic prestige.
