Luis Pato Colheita Seleccionada Branco is a young white wine made with the native Maria Gomes variety by Luis Pato in the Portuguese denomination of DOC Bairrada (Beiras).
Luis Pato runs the winery founded by his father João Pato in 1970 in Quinta do Ribeirinho. The first winery to bottle in the Barirrada region, the Pato family are known in the industry for being innovators. Luis, the current manager, is a champion in this area for destemming the grapes and using new French oak barrels. He is also known for being the first Vinhas Velhas wine producer in Portugal.
He has planted different native varieties across the 60 hectares of vineyards that he owns. This Luis Pato Colheita Seleccionada Branco comes from 15-year-old vines planted in clay-calcareous soil. The team use environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
When the Luis Pato Colheita Seleccionada Branco grapes reach the winery, they are selected and carefully destemmed. They are then pressed and the resulting must is transferred to stainless steel tanks to begin fermentation. It is bottled after being filtered and clarified.
