Les Frères Mignon L'Aventure 1er Cru Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs is a very dry champagne (between 0-6 g/L of sugar). On the nose it is elegant with notes of flowers and pastries. On the palate it is mineral and fresh, with body and a toasted background. At first it is acidic, with hints of green apple drifting into almonds. Complex and very fine. Spicy finish. Fine and persistent bubbles.
In 2015 they decided to take the plunge. Who knows if that’s why their champagne, Les Frères Mignon L'Aventure 1er Cru Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs, got its name. What is clear is that by taking a risk the Mignon brothers saw great success. Until 2015, the family, with a long history in viticulture and the owners of some good vineyards in the A.O.C. Champagne, sold all of their grapes to the top champagne houses. However, in less than a year, Florent and Julien Mignon managed to set up their own winery, drastically changing their path and making an entrance into the world of Grower Champagnes. This movement, which includes other names like David Léclapart, fights against the impersonality of the cuvées made by big champagne houses, instead making champagnes with their own grapes and reflecting the identity of the terroir in each bottle. This work results in unique champagnes, where no two vintages are the same.
Les Frères Mignon L'Aventure 1er Cru Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs therefore reflects the unique characteristics of the Chardonnay variety growing on old vines (over 50 years old) cultivated by the brothers on the family plots in Avize, Cramant and Cuis (in northwest France). These three vineyards, classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru, are organically and sustainably cultivated. Likewise, the range of the Chardonnay’s nuances are also brought out through the work in the winery, where they use minimal intervention (no filtration or clarification), they ferment with native yeasts and use a limited dosage.
The first vintage of Les Frères Mignon L'Aventure 1er Cru Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs was released in 2019. Almost two years later, it is still a must-have. The best way to escape from industrial formulas and get to know the purity at the heart of the A.O.C. Champagne.
