Lagavulin 12 Years Old Special Release is a single malt whisky that opens with an intense and smoky character, where peat and wood ash evoke live embers by the sea, accompanied by a subtle saline undertone reminiscent of shells and Atlantic air, very much in the vein of Lagavulin. On the palate, it is smooth and slightly unctuous, with a sweetness that unfolds in the form of dried fruits and spicy notes, before giving way to a deeper and more structured smokiness. The balance between the saline, the sweet, and the toasted creates an enveloping and characterful sensation. The finish is long, dry, and persistent, with the peat and a marine echo lingering like the gentle warmth of embers that still breathe and warm the hearth.
