About Kumeu River Huntill Hill Chardonnay
Kumeu River Hunting Hill Chardonnay is a single-variety Chardonnay white wine produced by the Kumeu River winery in the Hawke’s Bay denomination in New Zealand.
The grapes used to make the Kumeu River Hunting Hill Chardonnay wine come from the Hunting Hill vineyard that was first planted in 1982 and has always been an important part of the Kumeu River Chardonnay coupage. In 2000, it was replanted and is now even better, adding ripe fruit characteristics to the wines that are made from its grapes.
When they reach the winery, the grapes are pressed whole and the must undergoes alcoholic fermentation in barrels with native yeasts. The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages in barrels for around 11 months.
The Kumeu River winery has become a leading producer of Chardonnay wines outside Burgundy. The Brajkovich family vineyards date back to 1944 and they have grown as New Zealand’s wine industry has grown.
The family currently works 30 hectares of plots with the aim of showcasing their history, their work and family pride through their Chardonnay wines. They work to make these wines known and enjoyed around the world, and they are succeeding.
2020 | Kumeu River Huntill Hill Chardonnay 2020 is an intense white. On the nose it is floral and fruity (lemon, lime). The palate is voluminous and full-bodied, with a good balance between acidity and minerality. Long and elegant finish. |
|
2017 | Kumeu River Hunting Hill Chardonnay is a white wine with aromas of roasted cashews on the nose, which highlight the notes of tropical fruits and citrus and the spicy nuances. A white wine that is creamy on the palate with an impressive and complex variety of flavours, and a long and persistent finish. |
