Hankey Bannister Heritage Blend is a blended Scotch whisky, exhibiting a brilliant golden amber hue, which combines on the nose a sweet smokiness with hints of burnt orange and green apple, enveloped in delicate notes of vanilla and toffee. On the palate, it presents itself as rich and enveloping, with a smooth texture that gives way to flavours of honey and butterscotch. The ensemble is warm and balanced, with a subtle spiced character that adds depth. Its finish, long and complex, extends that sweet and slightly smoky sensation with elegant persistence.

What would you do if you stumbled upon a century-old bottle of whisky and had the chance to pour its story into a glass? That is the intriguing journey behind Hankey Bannister Heritage Blend, a recreation inspired by an ancient bottle from the house, crafted between 1924 and 1928 and rediscovered in impeccable condition. A small time capsule that allowed master blender Stuart Harvey to envisage the taste of that Hankey Bannister from another era.
 
The tale of Hankey Bannister began much earlier, when Beaumont Hankey and Hugh Bannister combined their personalities and passion for fine wines and spirits in 18th-century London. From that venture emerged one of the oldest whisky houses in Scotland, whose approach to blending marries the depth of Highland and Speyside malts with the lightness of Lowland grain whiskies. More than 250 years later, this blend of tradition and character remains integral to their identity.
 
To recapture the essence of that recipe, Heritage Blend starts with Hankey Bannister Original and combines it with mature and slightly smoky malts, allowing it to rest for at least five years in oak casks. The result possesses a warm, indulgent quality reminiscent of honey, butter toffee, and a delicate hint of smoke, yet with enough character to be savoured neat or to lend depth to a fine cocktail. It is no coincidence that this recreation captivated both the International Spirits Challenge and the World Spirits Competition, where it garnered Gold and Double Gold in 2022.
 
There is something especially enticing about sipping a whisky that was born from looking back to find its place in the present.
