About Grand Village Rouge
Grand Village Rouge is a red wine coupage made mainly using Merlot with a lower percentage of Cabernet Franc. It is made by the Château Grand Village and is classified as AOC Bordeaux Supérieur.
The Château Grand Village winery has been owned by the Guinaudeau family since the middle of the 17th century. The family also owns the legendary Château Lafleur. Their land is located in Mouillac, on the opposite side of Fronsac and covers an area of 50 hectares. The land is worked by the same team as at Château Lafleur. The soils are made of clay and chalk and the vines are planted on both hillsides and plains. The average age of the vines is 20 years old. They make white and red wines. Grapes are carefully selected and those that cannot be classified as Bodeaux Supérieur are sold to make a general Bordeaux wine.
The Grand Village Rouge is made from manually-harvested grapes. In the winery, the grapes pass over a selection table and are then destemmed and pressed. It then ferments in traditional cement tanks and is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.
Grand Village Rouge is a classic, balanced red wine with a good level of acidity.

2016 | Grand Village Rouge 2016 is a red wine with lush aromas of black cherries, blueberries and blackberries on the nose, accompanied by fresh hints of red currants, balsamic nuances of spearmint and a subtle aroma of pencil lead. On the palate it is full bodied, reaffirming its fruity flavours accompanied by a spicy nuance. A red wine with a long and vibrant finish. | |
2015 | Grand Village Rouge 2015 offers fresh fruit and beautiful red and black berries that still have a certain crunch. On the palate it is precise and creamy. The tannins are perfectly balanced and give it structure. It will age well, reaching its best at 3-6 years after harvest. |
