About Godelia Extra Brut Gran Reserva

What if an ordinary evening could transform into something extraordinary? In Bierzo (Castilla y León, Spain), as the day fades amidst vineyards and the mountains begin to change hue, there are grapes that seem to hold their own story. Godelia Extra Brut Gran Reserva is born from one of them, the godello, taking it to an uncommon realm: that of bubbles, where it moves with unexpected elegance.
 
Bodegas Godelia was established in 2009 with the aim of reviving the viticultural wealth of Bierzo and securing a future for a land of ancient vines. In Pieros, the García Rodríguez family tends to small plots of mencía, godello, and doña blanca, meticulously caring for every detail from the vineyard and committing to responsible viticulture, with living soils and manual labour. Amidst slate, quartzite, clay, and pebbles, some of their vines reach 100 years old, preserving in their roots the character of this landscape.
 
Godelia Extra Brut Gran Reserva was the winery's first sparkling wine and is crafted following the traditional method, with a second fermentation in the bottle and 22 months of ageing. The godello grape comes from vineyards aged between 30 and 60 years, planted at altitudes ranging from 500 to 700 metres, finding here a new way to express itself: exceedingly fine bubbles, elegance, and a texture that gains depth over time. A sparkling wine with character, yet without the need to raise its voice.
 
Perhaps that is why it feels like a discovery: that sensation of uncovering an unfamiliar facet of a grape you thought you knew. Perfect for a quiet table, a conversation that lingers, or that moment when evening falls and you still have no rush to leave. Sometimes, the best surprises appear just when you dare to view things from a different perspective.
