The beginning of the Scottish Glenrothes distillery is marked by tragic events. On December 28, 1879, the day the first alcohol came out of its stills, a terrible night of storms and strong winds caused great disaster, like the collapse of the Tay rail bridge (Scotland), which fell into the water while a passenger train was going over it, killing all those on board. This also coincided with the decade in which Great Britain was going through its worst economic crisis.
Despite all these adversities, its founder, Mr. James Stuart, had a vision and passion for whisky that managed to keep his dream alive of founding a distillery in his hometown, Rothes, in the Speyside region.
And that is how The Glenrothes was born, a distillery aimed at creating unique malt whiskies: lighter, fruitier and creamier, whiskies like we’ve never tasted before. Glenrothes alcohol is considered top class, so it is not surprising that their whiskies are excellent quality.
