Felton Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn is a biodynamic, barrel-aged red wine made by Felton Road in Central Otago (New Zealand’s South Island) with the Pinot Noir red variety.
Felton Road was founded by Nigel Greening in the heart of Otago. He is passionate about the Pinot Noir variety, and cultivates it biodynamically in his own vineyards. He also uses a “hands-free” approach in the winery where the winemaking process moves from one stage to the next through gravity. His wines are elegant and complex with a fruity depth.
Felton Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn comes from a mix of the four vineyards he owns. He cultivates in a way that takes care of the natural environment, using biodynamic practices like growing plants between the rows to improve soil health and generate biodiversity.
The Felton Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn grapes are gently destemmed, keeping 20% of the clusters. A long maceration takes place with skins and fermentation happens with native yeasts. Finally, the wine ages for 13 months in French oak barrels and is bottled without filtering.
Felton Road Pinot Noir Bannockburn is one of the best examples of Pinot Noir outside of Burgundy. A deep red with an attractive diversity of aromas and flavours.
