What if the secret to a fine wine lay precisely in not trying to control everything?
 
For centuries, vineyards thrived without perfect maps or meticulously designed plots: different varieties shared space, roots, and landscape, allowing nature itself to find its balance. Bodegas Exopto revives this ancient approach to viticulture with Exopto Field Blend Blanco, a wine born from the coexistence of various grapes and a simple yet powerful idea: sometimes, harmony emerges when each element finds its place.
 
From Laguardia, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, French winemaker Tom Puyaubert works with vineyards over 60 years old, where traditional varieties such as viura, malvasía, garnacha blanca, torrontés, palomino, and moscatel coexist. These are small, low-yielding plots, planted on clay-limestone soils with pebbles, where the Atlantic influence brings freshness and the Rioja landscape imparts character. This is a way of looking at the land anew with respect, allowing each vine to contribute its own voice to a shared story.
 
The winemaking follows the same philosophy of minimal intervention and utmost respect for origin. Harvesting is done together, and the wine ferments spontaneously with its own yeasts, using concrete tanks and used French oak barrels. After aging for about six months on its fine lees, it gains texture and depth without losing the fresh tension that keeps it vibrant. The result is an elegant and characterful white wine, where fruit, minerality, and subtlety work together in perfect harmony.
 
There are wines that do not seek to fit into a category, but rather remind us that beauty can also be found in the unexpected. Exopto Field Blend Blanco is an invitation to discover a less predictable Rioja, one to be savoured slowly, leaving the sensation of having found something authentic.
