Duas Quintas Tinto is a red wine coupage made with Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca accompanied by some of the region’s native varieties, produced by Casa Ramos Pinto in Porto, Portugal.
Duas Quintas Tinto is made with grapes that come from the highest part of the Duero, from the Quinta Ervamoira plots, located 150 metres above sea level, and from the Quinta dos Bons Ares vineyards, sitting at 600 metres above sea level. The clusters are harvested in 150 kg boxes and then destemmed and pressed when they reach the winery. Then comes alcoholic fermentation: some of the grapes do this in the traditional granite lagares that are used for grape treading, and the rest ferments in stainless steel tanks.
The must also undergoes malolactic fermentation, 20% of the wine ages for thirteen months in French oak barrels, 30% in large oak vats and the rest in stainless steel tanks.
Porto is world-renowned for its extraordinary fortified wines, but the region also produces non-fortified wines like Duas Quintas Tinto, a wine that takes us on a tour of the most representative varieties, expressing the region’s full potential.
