About Convento San Francisco

Convento de San Francisco is a red wine from D.O Ribera del Duero produced by the winery with the same name, Convento de San Francisco.

This winery is founded on the remains of an old convent, San Francisco de Peñafiel from the 8th century, located in Peñafiel (Valldolid).

Convento de San Francisco is 100% produced from Tinta del País (Tempranillo). The vines are 25 to 100 years of ages, located between 760 and 970 meters above sea level. Planted in sandy, clay and chalk soils.

The harvest is completed by hand and the grapes are transported to the wineryin small containers of 15 kg capacity, where the grapes will be processed again for a second selection on the table. This is to ensure maximum quality control of the grape.

The grapes are fermented in 25,000 kg stainless steel containers. Convento de San Francisco is then aged for 12 months in 225 litre American (30%) and French (70%) oak barrels.

2016

Convento San Francisco 2016 is a full-bodied red wine brimming with robust aromas of dark fruit, sweetly spiced undertones, and hints of cocoa powder. On the palate, it is harmonious, vivacious, and well-structured. A wine featuring refined tannins and an enduring finish with balsamic echoes.
2013 Convento San Francisco 2013 is a mature, intense and elegant red wine. In this good vintage, the aromas of ripe red fruit stand out with spicy and toasted notes. In the mouth, it is silky, full-bodied and with quite a lingering finish.
2010 Fine and elegant on the palate. Passing is embracing and creamy with good presence of fruity flavours. Lightly sweet and good acidity. Very persistent.

Cherry red with purple reflections.

Red fruit aromas combined with sweet notes (jam and caramel). Fresh and clean.
2009 Very elegant attack with a good acidity. Fruit, coffee and chocolate. Tasty and long with a persistent aftertaste.

A pretty, ripe cherry colour. Clean and bright.

In the nose we find nuances of jam, ripe red fruit and caramel.
2006 Pleasant and lively attack and with a good presence of fruit. Tasty and unctuous but smooth mid palate. Refined tannins. Good and persistent finish which leaves an elegant creamy aftertaste.

Intense cherry colour with a maroon edge. Clean and bright. Thin legs which stain the glass.

Nice notes of ripe black fruit along with elegant toasted aromas from the wood. When it opens up, some milky and creamy notes are noticed along with some spicy hints. Light final mineral touches.
2005 Boca round and fleshy, powerful tannins that come from aging in wood.

Bright, intense cherry color.

I toasted spice aromas, light touches of wood.
