About Clos Bellane Obsidien Rouge
Although traditionally vintners tend to be deeply rooted in their region of origin, an increasing number are venturing into different areas with an adventurous spirit. These are zones that, due to their unique characteristics, manage to captivate them. A notable example is Stéphane Vedeau, who was first seduced by the vineyards of Languedoc and later ventured into the Rhône region, where he has successfully harnessed the best of its terroirs. In the Rhône, Vedeau owns three wineries: Jeannine Boutin, named in honour of his mother, located in the north; and in the south, La Ferme du Mont and Clos Bellane. The latter, a small estate situated in the higher areas of the southern Rhône, stands out for its privileged position. Despite the proximity to the warm Mediterranean Sea, the vineyards benefit from the refreshing mistral, a cold wind blowing from the north, creating ideal conditions for the production of high-quality wines with an elegant and fresh profile.
One of the most distinguished wines from this winery is Clos Bellane Obsidien Rouge, crafted from selected vineyards of syrah, grenache, and mourvèdre. These grape varieties, planted on limestone soils, are cultivated under optimal climatic conditions and strict ecological principles to ensure the purity and quality of the fruit. The harvest and selection of the best grapes are done manually. In the winery, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wine undergoes delicate ageing in French oak barrels before being bottled.
Altitude, freshness, and meticulous care are the three key elements that define Clos Bellane Obsidien Rouge, an elegant wine with structure and complexity that distinguishes it as a true oenological gem of the AOC Côtes du Rhône.
