About Ca' Lojera Lugana della Lupa
The wolf has always been one of the greatest examples of the difficult relationship between man and nature conservation. There are many areas where there were regular wolf attacks on livestock. However, in the Lombardy region, they say that when the Garda and Frassine lakes were connected by canals, black market traders would sneak in from the north in boats and hide their contraband merchandise knowing that, as it was an area full of wolves, no one would dare to go and look for their goods. As a tribute to this legend of the past, the couple Ambra and Franco Tiraboschi have their wine project the name Ca’ Lojera (House of wolves in the local dialect). A strictly family winery that currently owns 18 hectares and is known for the production of simple, pleasant and cordial wines that are faithful to the terroir of the DOC Lugana.
La’ Lojera Lugana della Lupa is one of their white wines that starts life on the white clays of Lake Garda. The grapes grow on Trebbiano di Lugana vines, some of which are more than 50 years old. They are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest happens late. In the winery, the grapes are selected and destemmed and, once pressed, the resulting must is fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, where it remains on the lees for 24 months and at least 6 months more in the bottle.
So now you know. The only danger you will have with this “house of wolves” is to hold your nerve so as not to claw open La’ Lojera Lugana della Lupa. A fresh, mineral and deep wine, with no excessively pretentious refinements, that reflects the Lugana terroir in a simple and direct way.
