Ambassadeur Aperitif de Tradition
Vermouth.
Ambassadeur is an aperitif with complex aromas subtly reminiscent of sangria on the nose, and where the presence of bitter orange stands out with vanilla and herbal notes. On the palate, the presence of orange is reaffirmed, accompanied by a bitter nuance from the gentian that adds balance and freshness. A drink that, as well as being perfect for enjoying as an aperitif, also pairs wonderfully with desserts.
About Ambassadeur Aperitif de Tradition
Ambassadeur is a French aperitif that was created in 1936 by Pierre Pourchet under the Cusenier name. It is made from mistela (grape must with enough alcohol added to prevent fermentation) which is left to settle for more than a year in oak barrels. After this time, the mistela is macerated with orange peels, curaçao, vanilla, cocoa beans and other herbs, seeds and roots which, combined with gentian, result in a fresh aperitif with a slightly bitter finish.
Ambassadeur is a legendary drink that had its moment of glory in the 1950s thanks to a successful advertisement starring great French comedians of the time who used the famous phrase “L'Ambassadeur, quelle excellence!” (Ambassadeur, such excellence!). Today it is produced by Byrrh in Thuir, in the south of France, managed by the Pernod Ricard group.
Thanks to the current boom in appetisers, new generations can discover legendary drinks like Ambassadeur, and older people can continue to enjoy these memories and flavours that are found in a glass of chilled Ambassadeur with a twist of orange or lemon zest, a gastronomic heritage! Vintage essence that never goes out of style.
