Verdejo wines
Made with the Verdejo grape variety
Verdejo is a white grape, Verdejo, considered native of Rueda, planted there by the Mozarabic. This is a high quality grape. The vine is vigorous and trunk horizontal size. Berries small to medium-sized, generally spherical or elliptical short and yellow, their seeds tend to be rather large, pointing to the light when looking at the grapes. This is usually alone, single-varietal wines. It produces very aromatic wine, with soft bodies and glycerol. Good acidity and characteristic bitter taste. It is also called: White Button Gallo, Gouveia, Verdejo, Verdelho.
Verdejo is a cross between the Castellana Blanca and Savagnin (Traminer) varieties. The perfect growing conditions for it to reach its maximum potential are found in the Spanish regions of Valladolid, Segovia and Ávila (Toro and Rueda). In the D.O.
Verdejo characteristics.
In appearance, the Verdejo grape is very green in colour, has large seeds and compact clusters. Verdejo wines can be young and pleasant, perfect to enjoy as a white wine by the glass, but there are also complex and creamy barrel-aged Verdejos.
Verdejo wine tasting.
On the palate they are a fruity adventure with hints of melon, pineapple, passion fruit, mango and peach. There are also vegetal notes of fennel, anise and hay as well as other citrus notes like grapefruit, limes and similar that provide great freshness.
Verdejo pairings.
Verdejos are perfect to enjoy with spicy meals, because their final bitter taste helps to cleanse these flavours. Mexican or Asian food can be a great companion for a good Verdejo, as well as other foods with oily textures.
Growing areas.

Varieties similar to Verdejo.
