About Cuatro Rayas Cuarenta Vendimias Cuvée Gran Vino de Rueda

When we talk about the Verdejo grape, we generally think of fresh and aromatic white wines. This white grape variety is native to Spain, and especially well known in the Rueda region. In recent decades its popularity has increased significantly thanks to its versatility, freshness and lightness. However, although this is the best known side of this white variety, the truth is that as producers in this region have invested in technology and high quality winemaking techniques, the myth that Verdejo wine must be consumed within a year has been disproved. Producers with as much experience as the Valladolid cooperative Cuatro Rayas have worked hard to add value to the oldest vines that the members have and use them to make nationally and internationally renowned delightful aged wines.

We discovered one of these great works called Cuatro Rayas Cuarenta Vendimias Cuvée Gran Vino de Rueda. A wine made from pre-phylloxera vines that were carefully recovered for specific vinifications. The grapes are harvested by hand with selection in the vineyard and in the winery, and then fermentation begins with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. Once the wine has been made, it is aged on the lees for 5 months and then undergoes a moderate 3-month barrel aging with daily bâttonage.

Cuatro Rayas Cuarenta Vendimias Cuvée Gran Vino de Rueda 2021 is a defined white wine with aromas of white flowers, notes of fresh fruit and balsamic and herbaceous hints. On the palate it is fresh, lively and elegant. A well-structured wine with marked acidity, a harmonious mid-palate and a long and infinite finish.
