Sierra Cantabria Crianza is a red wine from the Rioja region, and is produced by Bodegas Sierra Cantabria. This wine is made from only Tempranillo (100%) grapes, a variety the region is known for.
The grapes are taken from vineyards situated in the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida.
The harvest of the grapes is carried manually, with bunches being selected at the vinyard before being placed on a selection belt at the winery. After, the grapes are destemmed and fermented at a controlled temperature between 25º- 28ºC using indigenous yeasts from the vineyards themselves.
Sierra Cantabria Crianza then macerates with the skins still intact for 16 days with 2 daily pumpings. Following this, the Sierra Cantabria Crianza ages for 14 months in American and French (from bordeaux) oak barrels, with rackings taking place every 4 months.
Sierra Cantabria is owned by the Eguren family, who over 5 generations have dedicated themselves to viticulture and agricultura. They relation with wine dates all the way back to 1870.
The winery Bodega Sierra Cantabria is located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a village with a great winemaking tradition in the hear of La Rioja. The winery belongs to the Eguren family. A family that has been making wine for five generations in La Rioja, and with projects in other Denominations of Origin, such as Teso la Monja winery in D.O. Toro.
