Viña Pomal  Selección 500 a red wine produced by Bodegas Bilbaínas in Haro, D.O.Ca. La Rioja.

 

Viña Pomal is one of the great brands of Bodegas Bilbaínas. Viña Pomas' first vintage was in 1908. It is currently a vineyard area of 120 hectares.
It is a line of wines that has known how to adjust to the new times, without losing the essence of its classic origin. 

 

Viña Pomal  Selección 500 is a wine made from Tempranillo (85%) from La Rioja Alta, planted on clayey-calcareous soils, searching for the power of ageing, and Grenache (15%) from La Rioja Baja, which gives this wine freshness and a lot of fruitiness.
It is made in a traditional way, preparing each variety individually. Tempranillo undergoes a long maceration process and is aged in 225-litre American oak barrels for 15 months. Grenache ferments with the stems and at a lower temperature, and it is aged in large French oak barrels called "bocoyes" with a capacity of 500 litres.

Viña Pomal Selección 500 2020 is a red wine that, upon olfaction, unveils scents of ripe black fruits, violets, and licorice, complemented by a hint of indulgent fruit contributed by the Garnacha. On the palate, it exhibits a robust onset and a fleshy texture. Mineral undertones emerge alongside flavours reminiscent of cocoa. A red wine that is both refreshing and balanced, offering a delightful harmony between fruit and oak.
 
2014 Viña Pomal Selección 500 2014 is a powerful and meaty wine. This vintage shows a pleasant mixture of black and red fruit from both varieties, combined with a light toasted background. A tribute to traditional winemaking.
