About Castell D'Encús Thalarn
Castell d'Encús Thalarn is a red wine from the D.O. Costers del Segre, crafted by Castell d'Encús, a winery established in 2001 by Raül Bobet, the mastermind behind the renowned Ferrer Bobet. Raül Bobet adheres to a distinct philosophy in winemaking, centred on the utmost care for the vineyard and its grapes, passion, unwavering dedication, and respect for nature. He refrains from using any herbicides or pesticides in his agricultural practices.
The climate in this region is continental, marked by a significant thermal contrast between day and night and an annual average rainfall ranging from 300 to 450 mm.
Castell d'Encús Thalarn is a single-varietal syrah sourced from a proprietary estate located in the municipality of Talarn, a small village in the Pyrenees, situated at an altitude between 850 and 1000 metres. It is the winery that produces wines at the highest altitude in Spain. The vineyards are planted on loamy limestone soils with low organic matter content.
Regarding the production process, following the manual harvest in small 10 kg crates, the wine ferments in various materials, including wooden vats, stainless steel tanks, and stone vats, to achieve diverse nuances and exceptional aromatic complexity. Subsequently, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels for 12 months.
This wine has not been clarified or filtered. We recommend decanting it to fully appreciate its aromatic and flavourful potency.
