About Tesalia Iceni
In 2007, Richard Golding, a distinguished marketing executive, acquired a 200-hectare estate in Arcos de la Frontera, a charming village in the southern reaches of Spain, situated in the province of Cádiz. This locale, serving as a gateway to the Sierra de Cádiz, was envisioned as the perfect sanctuary for a serene retirement, indulging in his true passions: equestrianism and horse breeding. Yet, an unforeseen discovery would slightly alter his original plans. Upon examining the soil composition of the estate - clay-rich with a subsoil of chalk - he recognized the land’s potential for viticulture. Thus, the inception of Tesalia wineries came to be. Today, Tesalia wineries stand as an innovative (not to mention singular) venture in the south of Spain. In this region, traditionally known for its consumption of fortified wines and whites, red wines are not commonplace. Admittedly, there are various initiatives, but none as audacious or of such high caliber as this winery. Specifically, this latter aspect is of paramount importance to the company, which prudently limits its production to three wines.
Tesalia Iceni is an exceptional wine. It represents the sublime harmony between syrah and tintilla de rota (a native varietal of the area). This grape, long neglected, is now resurging to prominence in some of the finest reds of the region. The majority of the vineyards that have been preserved are ancient, some even ungrafted, as the phylloxera plague was unable to thrive in the sandy soils characteristic of the coastal area where this variety was cultivated. Thanks to this, the enjoyment of the grape continues to this day. In the case of Tesalia, none of the varieties come from old vineyards. Specifically, the vines were planted in 2010, breaking away from the traditional training systems of the region. Here, in the south of Spain, it is quite common to find vines trained on trellises or planted directly in the ground. The Golding family, led by oenologists Valle Lozano and Natalia Golding (Richard's daughter), have chosen to cultivate high-altitude vineyards on wireframes, thereby shielding the clusters from the sun (the leaf canopy provides shade) and elevating them above the ground (which tends to retain heat in summer). In the winery, the operations of Tesalia are truly impressive. It should be noted that all facilities are state-of-the-art, equipped with cutting-edge machinery, always ensuring the quality of the wines is preserved. In fact, at Tesalia, all musts and wines are transferred by gravity. After destemming and the appropriate macerations, Tesalia Iceni ferments and matures in French oak barrels, where it will spend around five months.
Who would have told Richard Golding that the end of his professional career would become the beginning of a new venture. After all, life is about just that: embarking on one adventure after another. And what better way to celebrate than to toast with a glass of Tesalia Iceni to each new exploit.

On the nose, it is powerful and pristine, intricate, with hints of red fruit, licorice, and balsamic nuances. The palate experiences a refreshing and fruity essence, with substance and density. Blackberry, plum, toasted bread, and a subtle bitterness will surely tantalize your taste buds. |
