Terras Gauda La Mar 2021
D.O. Rías Baixas
(Galicia)
Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra is a wonderful D.O. Rías Baixas white wine by Bodegas Terras Gauda.
It is a coupage of this denomination's autochthonous varieties: Albariño (70 percent), Loureiro (20 percent), and Caíño Blanco (10 percent). The vines are grown in Valle de O Rosal, a privileged site at the mouth of the river Miño near the Atlantic Ocean, with mild weather that's perfect for producing wine.
The Albariño and Caíño varieties are planted at a low altitude, at about 50 metres above sea level. The moderate humidity and warm temperatures translate to an early harvest, more concentrated grapes and less acidity. The Loureiro in turn is farmed at a higher altitude of 150 metres above sea level with less humidity and cooler temperatures. This leads to a slower maturation process, giving the wine intense aromas and smoothness on the palate.
The harvest takes place manually and the grapes are transported in 20 kg boxes to prevent damage before reaching the winery.
The different varieties are produced separately. They are first cold macerated in close contact with their peels in order to extract their delicate aromas. A "coupage" is later carried out with the must of each variety and the blend ferments in French oak barrels.
Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra ages for five months in French oak barrels on its lees with regular batonages. It is later left to rest in the cold for four months before bottling. It is left to fine in the bottle for a minimum of six months.
Terras Gauda is a very special white wine. The Albariño brings fruity aromas and volume on the palate. The Loureiro brings floral intensity on the nose. And the Caíño, together with exotic fruity aromas and balsamic notes, brings structure.
This is a white wine that will evolve in the bottle for the next four years.
We recommend you decant this wine before drinking.
Terras Gauda Etiqueta Negra 2020 is a refined and fruity white wine. The nose is captivating, with aromas of clementine, melon, lychee, chamomile and white spices. These notes are complemented by French oak notes like toast, brioche and nutmeg. The palate is powerful, well-structured and elegant, with velvety and enveloping tannins. Long and persistent finish.
Bodegas Terras Gauda is located in the D.O. Rías Baixas, where great white wines are produced using the area's typical varieties: mostly Albariño, but also Loureiro and Caíño. Currently, Terras Gauda is the largest winery by production in the D.O. Rías Baixas. It also heads a group that includes the Pittacum and Quinta Sardonia wineries, in the D.O.s of Bierzo and Ribera del Duero, respectively.
