Ternario 2 2018 captivates us with its harmonious balance of ripeness and vivacity. On the nose, it greets us with a spectrum of aromas, with wild blackberries intertwined with hints of black pepper and a whisper of walnut. On the palate, it has a slightly robust presence, with a texture that speaks of the chalky soil from which it hails, and a finish that conjures images of Mediterranean herbs. A concentrated wine that unveils itself with subtlety.

About Ternario 2

A mathematical system where numerical quantities can only be represented using three digits is known as ternary: 0, 1 and 2.

This mathematical concept has been used by the Venta La Vega winery to name Ternario 2, a collection of three wines made by the renowned winemaker Raúl Pérez: Ternary 1, Ternary 2 and Ternary 10. Of all of them, Ternario 2 is the most classic: a single-variety crianza red wine made in the D.O. Almansa (in the east of the Iberian Peninsula).

The vines aged over 20 years old spread over the 1,000 hectares of the La Vega estate are where everything starts. Growing here, on clay and limestone soil, is Garnacha Tintorera, the area’s most typical variety, which has regained the prestige it lost years ago.

In the winery, the whole clusters are fermented and undergo maceration. Ten months of aging in oak foudres is the final touch to make Ternario 2 the most traditional wine. 

2018

2017

Ternario 2 2017 is a supple red wine, displaying a deep cherry hue with a dense layer. Velvety in texture, it unfurls a rich and intricate bouquet of aromas, featuring red fruit, mineral undertones, and smoky notes. Gradually, it transitions to forest floor, spices, and dark berries. On the palate, it is vibrant, with seamlessly integrated tannins and a sumptuously rich acidity. Flavours of licorice, graphite, and spices abound.

2016

Ternario 2 2016 is a single-variety Garnacha Tintorera. The nose is dominated by earthy notes with red fruit, herbs and fine cocoa. Silky and balanced on the palate, with good acidity and a fine bitterness.
