About Casa Balaguer Salicornio Moscatel

Salicornio Moscatel is a white wine macerated with skins and made with the Muscat variety by Casa Balaguer-Vinessens in the D.O. Alicante (Valencia).

Casa Balaguer-Vinessens was created when two projects that were started separately in Alicante were merged into one. The first project wasCasa Balaguer, founded by Rafa Bernabé, and on the other was Vinessens run by Andrés Carull and Marta Ribera. Since 2017 the two wineries have been run by Andrés and Marta, holding onto the original characters of the two projects but updating the labels.

Salicornio Moscatel comes from the La Mata Natural Park, in the region of Alicante. These vines lie just 50 metres from the Mediterranean sea and are planted on sandy and saline soils. The team use organic farming with no chemical products and the harvest is carried out manually in small plastic boxes.

Once in the winery, the Salicornio Moscatel grapes are meticulously selected and then undergo a pre-fermentation cold maceration with their skins for 5 days. Then a spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts begins and finally it ages on fine lees for 3 months in concrete tanks.

With a name inspired by a plant that grows in salt water areas, Salicornio Moscatel is a very Mediterranean wine with a delicious saline finish.
