It is named after José Coca, grandfather of the current generation that runs this family winery in the Bitlles Valley, in the heart of the Catalan Penedés region (in northeastern Spain). Sabaté i Coca Josep Coca Brut Nature is a very special sparkling wine; not only because of its significance, but also because it is an award winning sparkling wine. In 2015, it was chosen from more than a thousand samples as the Best Sparkling Wine of Catalonia by the Vinari Awards. It seems like at these awards, where they reward quality, they were able to appreciate the terroir this sparkling wine comes from. Sabaté i Coca Josep Coca Brut Nature is a coupage of Xarel·lo and Macabeo grown on marl and calma soils. Specifically, this vineyard plot is over 70 years old and was planted by the grandfather Josep Coca. This small piece of land is just a small part of the total 40 hectares currently owned by the family, with a mix of more than 18 different soils. In this blend of soils lies the richness and distinctiveness that make Castellroig Sabaté i Coca wines unique, achieving unparalleled nuances.

Sabaté i Coca Josep Coca Brut Nature is organically grown and made in stainless steel tanks. From fermentation to aging, which lasts more than 60 months, the entire process is carried out in these much more sterile containers, which won’t interfere at all with the taste of the sparkling wine. The lees, on the other hand, spend 60 months in contact with the base wine, which is already bottled, ready to undergo a second fermentation. Sabaté i Coca Josep Coca Brut Nature is a great sparkling wine, one of the greats from Catalan winemaking; however, Sabaté i Coca Josep Coca Brut Nature doesn’t stop there.
