About Ronco Severo Schioppettino
The Schioppettino (also known as Ribolla Nera) is a local red variety from Friuli Venezia Giulia (Italy) that people already knew about in the 13th century and, in the Prepotto area, in the province of Udine, it expresses its best character. This is demonstrated by Stefano Novello of the Ronco Severo winery with his single-variety Ronco Severo Schioppettino, a natural wine where family tradition and personal innovation showcase the best of a unique terroir with a modern and original image.
Ronco Severo Schioppettino comes from vineyards that grow in Collio’s characteristic soil, called “ponka”, made up of marl and sandstone and lying at an altitude of about 150 metres above sea level. The work is meticulous and respectful of the vine’s natural cycles and no chemicals are used. Once the grapes are slightly overripe, they are harvested by hand in boxes with selection in the vineyard and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts and a long maceration on the skins. The wine is then aged for 30 months in 700 hl foudres. Finally, the wine is bottled during the waning moon without filtering.
Through all of this Stefano manages to create a real interaction between the wine and the vineyard of origin. Small productions from individual territories that are very well expressed in this Ronco Severo Schioppettino. An authentic red wine from the Colli Orientali del Friuli that is decidedly territorial and typically varietal. A contemporary, full-bodied and structured wine that is very easy to drink.

Ronco Severo Schioppettino 2018 is a supple red wine suffused with the essence of forest fruits, hints of black pepper, and underbrush nuances. On the palate, it is intricate, robustly constructed, and refined. This wine boasts a well-woven tannic fabric, invigorating acidity, and a protracted, delightful finish. |
