About Protos Verdejo Reserva

Protos Verdejo Reserva (formerly known as Protos Verdejo Fermentado en Barrica) is a white wine from the DO. Rueda produced by the winery Protos. This wine is a single-varietal of Verdejo.

The grapes used for Protos Verdejo Reserva originate from vineyards over 30 years old, part of the 1,400 hectares of land the winery has scattered around the Duero River. The climate in this area is dry and hot in summer, with temperatures easily exceeding 30°C, and cold during the long winters, where it can reach -18°C. In summary, it is a Mediterranean climate with strong continental influences.

The harvest is conducted using 20-kilogram capacity boxes to prevent the grapes from breaking during transport, and it takes place at night, taking advantage of the coolness to ensure the grapes arrive in optimal condition at the winery.

Once at the facilities, the berries of Protos Verdejo Reserva are selected on a sorting table. A maceration process with skins follows for about four or five days at a temperature of 10°C, and finally, fermentation occurs in new French oak barrels.

Protos Verdejo Reserva, ultimately, ages in French oak barrels alongside its lees for over a year (during which frequent stirring is performed) and in the bottle.

Protos is a renowned winery, founded in 1927, specializing in the production of white wines. Its areas of operation are the DO. Rueda and the DO. Ribera del Duero.

Protos Verdejo Reserva 2020 is a white wine renowned for its aromatic intensity and complexity, where fresh herbal notes intertwine with tropical and citrus nuances, complemented by elegant hints of vanilla and fine pastry imparted by its barrel ageing. On the palate, it is dry and unctuous, with a balance between its structure and vibrant acidity, providing freshness and a long, persistent finish. A perfect white wine to accompany fish with creamy sauces and an exceptional choice to enhance foie gras; designed for leisurely meals that invite conversation.

Protos Verdejo Reserva 2018 is an exceptionally expressive wine that is sure to make a lasting impression. Exhibiting a deep straw yellow hue (significantly more pronounced than a typical Verdejo), this wine reveals a nose of intense and complex aromas, where a symphony of fruit notes (herbaceous, tropical, with a subtle citrus undertone) harmonizes with the gentle toast from the barrels (vanilla and delicate pastry nuances). On the palate, it is rich and unctuous, boasting volume and structure. A dry wine with robust acidity. The finish is long and enduring.
2013 Refreshing and robust. Articulate and well-balanced, with excellent acidity. A prolonged finish with a hint of smokiness.

A hue of yellow with greenish tinges. Pristine and luminous.

Hints of ripe fruit, nuances of citrus, and echoes of sweet spices. Aniseed and yeasty notes are also present.
