Mauro Valeyo 2022 is a captivating wine that dazzles with its blend of wild berries, herbs, and flowers. About Mauro Valeyo

The Garcia family is all about courage. First came Bodegas Mauro, in Tudela del Duero (in 1978), then San Román, later Garmón Continental and finally Baynos (in La Rioja). Now they work in the D.O. Bierzo making their Mauro Valeyo red wine, a coupage of Mencía and Godello. And that makes five.

Right in the municipality of Valtuille de Arriba, in the D.O. Bierzo, the family cultivates the three-hectare Miguel Rey plot, lying at an altitude of 650 metres above sea level. The vines grow on loose, acidic, alluvial soils where sand and clay are mixed. At Bodegas Mauro all crops are organic, respecting the environment and the condition of the vines and the rest of the ecosystem.

Mauro Valeyo is made in the most traditional way. It all starts with the grape harvest, where the grapes are picked as carefully as possible. The bunches are quickly taken to the winery, where they are processed and crushed. Once the grape pulp has been made, Mauro Valeyo is vatted and begins to ferment in concrete. This process, where the must becomes wine, lasts a few days until the native yeasts finish their work. Once this phase is finished, it is time for Mauro Valeyo to go into barrels and age. This red wine will spend approximately one year in these French oak barrels (some new and some used).

Mauro Valeyo 2021 is a concentrated red wine, with a cherry red colour and violet hues. It is very complex, intense and deep on the nose, with fruity notes (cherries, blackberries, strawberries), spices and herbaceous touches. The palate is balanced, with fine and elegant tannins. Very fresh and subtle.
