Red wine Natural, Organic and Vegan.
Mas Coutelou Quoi qu'il en goutte 2020 is a juicy, complex red wine made from blending 2019 Syrah and Carignan with 2020 Syrah. Intense, dark red in color, this wine presents a nose where the protagonists are blackberry and black cherry with hints of leather. The palate is bittersweet, with black fruit, pepper, spices and tobacco. Long, dry, acidic finish.

Whatever will be will be, come what may... How many times have we repeated this mantra during 2020? Jeff Coutelou, one of France's most renowned natural winemakers, couldn’t let these 12 months of uncertainty and resignation pass without making a special allusion to them with the red wine Mas Coutelou Quoi qu'il en goutte.
Translated literally as No matter what, this wine comes from Puimisson, a village in the heart of Languedoc, a few kilometers from Béziers. The Mas Coutelou winery located there, currently managed by Jeff Coutelou, the fourth generation of the family, is nowadays a reference in the area. This fame is not undeserved, since in 1987, when no one was farming organically, this winery took the step of eliminating chemicals from its vineyards. That was not the only decision they had to make. The change to organic farming was accompanied by the reduction of hectares of vineyards in order to plant olive trees, hedges and trees which favored biodiversity in the 13 hectares that remained.
These are still active today, with grape vines native to the area, including Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre (for the red wines) or Grenache Blanc, Macabeo or Muscat of Alexandria (for the white wines).
Worked manually and separately, Mas Coutelou Quoi qu'il en goutte ferments spontaneously in concrete tanks and is racked into fiberglass tanks. There, after aging, it will go directly to blending, where the corresponding percentages of each cuvée will be blended. Finally, Mas Coutelou Quoi qu'il en goutte is bottled without filtering or clarifying.
May the future bring what it will. There’s no better way to face it than with a good sip of Mas Coutelou Quoi qu'il en goutte.
