About Macán
Macán is a single-variety Tempranillo red wine produced by the Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia winery in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.
The Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia winery is located northeast of Samaniego, in Rioja Alavesa, in a place called San Millán. The architecture of the winery fits in with the landscape as a sign of respect and sensitivity to the environment. It is made up of three separate warehouses, each of them home to a part of the winemaking process: production, aging and dispatch, and named after the basic elements of nature: water, earth and sun. All work in the Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia winery is carried out sustainably. A statement of intent!
Macán is made with grapes from vineyards over 30 years old that are harvested with the utmost care to ensure the integrity of the bunches.
After alcoholic fermentation, the resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation: 70% in stainless steel tanks and the other 30% in barrels. It then ages for 15 months in new, fine and extra fine grain French wood barrels, and a very small amount of the wine ages in barrels that have been used for one year.
Macán is an excellent Rioja wine that is the result of a joint vision of two great names in international winemaking: Rothschild and Vega Sicilia, whose hallmark of elegance and quality is undoubtedly clear.
