About Intipalka Malbec
The sun, Inti in Quechua, was the main god in the Inca empire. For this complex civilisation that developed in South America, the sun was the husband of the moon and had the power to cure all diseases. But he was also the one who governed all the crops, because thanks to his light and heat, the crops grew. It is in homage to this belief that the Queirolo family, an Italian family that emigrated to Peru in 1877 and since then has been dedicated to making wine and pisco in this country, decided to create a range of world-class Peruvian wines under the name Intipalka (Valley of the Sun). Small treasures born in one of the most deserted places in the world and which, thanks to its unusual characteristics, allows us to enjoy wines with significant acidity and great fruit.
Considering that the French noble varieties have adapted perfectly to the Valley of the Sun, Intipalka Malbec is a red wine grown at the foot of the Andes. A single-variety Malbec planted in 2000 by the third generation of the Queirolo family at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level, with a microclimate of impressive temperature contrasts and deep, sandy, limestone and clay soils that are poor in organic matter. Irrigated using drip irrigation, the grapes are harvested and selected by hand and, once they reach the winery, they are fermented in stainless steel tanks with a total maceration of 20 days. The wine then rests on its lees before bottling.
The result is a pleasant surprise. A young, light, fruity and easy-to-drink Malbec with superb value for money. Undoubtedly, the perfect wine to introduce you to Peru’s most coveted wine region.
2021 | Intipalka Malbec 2021 is a smooth red wine with aromas of blackcurrant, chocolate and black cherry. On the palate it is fresh, unctuous and well balanced. A wine with marked acidity, mellow tannins and a long finish with hints of leather and liquorice. |
