About Domaine de Montbourgeau L’Etoile En Banode

Domaine de Montbourgeau L'Etoile En Banode is an ecological, wood-aged white wine made by Domaine de Montbourgeau with the Savagnin and Chardonnay varieties in the AOC L'Etoile, in Jura (France).
 
Domaine de Montbourgeau is made up of some of the vineyards left to Nicole Deriaux by her grandfather. The winery dates back to the 1920s and has been run by three generations as one of the leading wineries in the Jura region. Since 1986, when Nicole took over the estate, the winery has been modernised and they now produce wines in different denominations like L'Etoile, Côtes du Jura, Côtes du Jura and Arbois.
 
Domaine de Montbourgeau L'Etoile En Banode comes from a very special plot planted by Nicole’s grandfather in 1970. These vines lie between steep hills surrounded by abundant vegetation and rooted in limestone soils with abundant marine fossils. The vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and no chemical products. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. 
 
In the winery, the two varieties used to make Domaine de Montbourgeau L'Etoile En Banode are vinified together in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 25 hl foudres. Finally the wine is racked into 500 litre barrels. Before bottling each barrel is tested and mixed.
 
Under the name l'Étoile, which in French means starfish, after the large number of marine fossils found in this area, Domaine de Montbourgeau L'Etoile En Banode is an energetic, harmonious wine with exuberant minerality.
 
2017 Domaine de Montbourgeau L'Etoile En Banode 2017 is a white wine with intense citrus aromas, notes of exotic spices and touches of deep minerality. On the palate it is energetic, muscular and very harmonious. A wine with integrated acidity, notes of nuts and a very saline finish.
