White wine Aged under 'velo flor'.

Cuatro Rayas 61 Dorado en Rama is a very special wine. With an Iodised colour and a yellow rim, this is a complex wine that we should take our time with. Discovering all its nuances is a real spectacle. Dried fruits, toasted touches and sweet spices appear on the nose. The palate is dry, with a certain bitterness, and it is very long and persistent (similar to an amontillado). Salinity due to oxidation and aging in soleras.

About Cuatro Rayas 61 Dorado en Rama

Although the Rueda Denomination of Origin (in Castilla y León) is not one of the oldest denominations of origin in Spain (it was created in 1980), it has gained recognition and prestige in recent decades due to the quality of the white wines it produces, especially those made from the Verdejo grape variety. However, long before the denomination was created, it was common in this region for households to make white wines from overripe grapes. A traditional practice in the town of La Seca that led to the creation of huge stores in the cooperative to be able to pool resources. Shared containers in which rumour had it that number 61 was the best of them all. That is how this number became legendary in this town and, for this reason, it is now the name of a line of products from one of the most outstanding wineries in Rueda: Cuatro Rayas.

Cuatro Rayas 61 Dorado en Rama is a fortified wine made with century-old Palomino and Verdejo grape varieties that, following the traditional method, are aged in barrels with ⅙ left empty to encourage the development of the native yeast cap. As a distinguishing feature of this area, during the biological aging process the cap disappears during the autumn and winter months, causing a very unusual slow oxidation. Each year, there is one drawing off, which is transferred from the barrel to the bottle, without clarifying or filtering. The barrel is then filled with wine matured for one year in a concrete tank.

Faithful to the region’s ancient tradition, Cuatro Rayas 61 Dorado en Rama is a wine that is made like they used to make it. A wine that triumphed in the golden age (it was the wine of the Court at the time of the Catholic Monarchs) and now Cuatro Rayas presents it their own way.
