About Château Pesquié Ascensio Rouge

Mont Ventoux, the ‘giant of Provence’, is one of the historic mountains of the Tour de France, measuring no less than 1909 metres. But it is also directly connected to the work of the Italian Renaissance poet and humanist Francesco Petrarca. A lover of heights who, when he poured his poetic imagination into the letter explaining his fantastic ascent of Mont Ventoux, became the spiritual father of mountaineering. The Chaudière family created their Château Pesquié Ascensio Rouge wine in homage to this mountain with its moon-like landscape and symbol of the magic of altitude.

Under the name Château Pesquié, the winery is the result of a three-generation family adventure. Grandfathers, fathers and now sons (Alexandre and Frédéric) have been dedicated to reflecting the highest expression of the Ventoux region since 1973. Now one of the most important domaines of the denomination and of the southern Rhône, their Château Pesquié Ascensio Rouge is a blend ofGrenache and Syrah from 50-80 year old vines planted at 330 metres above sea level on clay and limestone soils with lots of stones. The vineyards are organically cultivated and they have followed biodynamic practices since 2015. Yields do not exceed 20 hl/ha and, once the grapes are harvested by hand, only 70% are destemmed; the remaining 30% are left whole. They are then subjected to a month-long maceration, and fermented and aged in cement tanks to maintain maximum fruitiness.

Considering that Château Pesquié Ascensio Rouge is produced in very small quantities (less than 3,000 bottles) and only in great vintages, it is undoubtedly a wine of great stature that places the captivating and still little known AOC Ventoux in the position it deserves.
