About Château Ausone

Château Ausone is a biodynamic red wine produced by the prestigious Château Ausone with the Merlot and Cabernet Franc varieties in the AOC Saint-Émilion, in Bordeaux (France).

Located on the right bank of the Bordeaux wine region, Château Ausone has strong links to the history of Saint-Emilion. After having been owned for a long time by two great winemaking families, Dubois-Challon and Vauthier, the Vauthier family took full control of the winery in 1995 and, with the appointment of Pascal Delbeck as the estate’s vine-grower, the winery was once again on a path to success. Since 2007, the estate has been run by Alain Vauthier, and his daughter Pauline has now taken over running the vineyards. Their two collector’s wines Château Ausone and Chapelle d'Ausone are essential for those who want to understand the prestige and fame of Bordeaux wines.

Château Ausone comes from high-altitude, south-facing vineyards lying on sloping terraces. These are exceptional terroirs where the combination of sun exposure and the sand and clay on sandstone soils makes them unique. The vines are cultivated using biodynamic agriculture with very gentle methods that respect the balance of this legendary vineyard. Production is very limited and, because the vines are small, the harvest must be carried out manually at the optimum time.

When it comes to vinifying Château Ausone, maximum expression of terroir is sought. To do this, they choose the best grapes which are then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place with controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks and then the wine is left to age in 225-litre French oak barrels for a minimum of 21 months.

Château Ausone is a monumental red wine. An impressive Bordeaux 1er Grand Cru that is designed for collectors and gets better and better with every year that passes.

2014

Château Ausone 2014 is a concentrated red wine that reveals aromas of intense ripe red fruits, notes of orange blossom and mineral and spicy touches. On the palate it is harmonious, balanced and impressively elegant. A medium-bodied wine with very fine tannins and refreshing acidity that promises a wonderful bottle aging. A real work of art.

2012

Château Ausone 2012 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of violet flowers, hints of cassis and chalky touches. On the palate it is opulent, fresh and delicate. A medium-bodied wine with fine tannins and persistent acidity. The flavours of ripe fruit, toasted notes of cedar and lingering hints of spice work together wonderfully.

2009
Château Ausone 2009 is a concentrated red wine with a purple colour and delicious aromas of ripe red, black and blue fruits accompanied by notes of powdered chalk, crushed rocks and wild violet flowers. On the palate it is rich, fresh and very precise. A wine with a voluptuous texture, wonderful acidity that promises a long life and a wonderfully mineral finish. A very small production of only 1200 bottles.

2005

Château Ausone 2005 is a perfect vintage wine. With wonderfully concentrated aromas of blueberry and blackberry, notes of crushed rock and hints of spring flowers. On the palate it is pure, rich and full-bodied. A long-living wine that reveals a perfect harmony between acidity, tannins, wood and alcohol. It would be best enjoyed in the next 50-75 years.
