About ARPEPE Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio
No doubt Decántalo inundates you with recommendations. We strive to excel in our work! Sometimes we may get it right, and other times not (apologies in advance). We don't always have a good day. However, we are confident that on this occasion, we will not disappoint you with this suggestion: ARPEPE Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio.
ARPEPE Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio is a single-variety wine crafted from nebbiolo delle Alpi (nebbiolo from the Alps), a red grape that originates in the D.O.C. Valtellina Superiore, in Lombardy, in the northwest of Italy. In this area near the Alps, this red variety— a superstar in other regions like Barolo and Barbaresco— is also known as chiavennasca, and it reveals its most exceptional version. This is primarily due to its location in a unique terroir (between the Rhaetian and Orobie Alps), dominated by the sun, making it an incredibly favourable place for these wines. Here, the vineyards are terraced on poor granite rock soils of glacial origin, compelling the nebbiolo vines to strive to the utmost, seeking the essential nutrients for their development.
For years, ARPEPE has been established in this area, a century-old winery with around 13 hectares, which continues to produce some of the most intriguing wines in the region. In a land of great reds, the wines of ARPEPE continue to surprise and captivate. Their current work is the legacy of centuries of labour. Founded in 1860, ARPEPE continues to expertly manage the use of nebbiolo, lengthy macerations (over 100 days), and ageing periods (significantly longer than average). This final step is crucial. In the case of ARPEPE Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio, this wine spends an average of three years resting in the underground cellars that the company owns at Via del Buon Consiglio number 4.
The vineyards at an altitude of 370 metres, at the foot of Grumello, will be the starting point in the production of ARPEPE Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio. Following this, there will be a manual harvest, where the nebbiolo must be perfectly ripened, and a maceration of 102 days in wooden vats. After fermentation, ARPEPE Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio will rest for several years in the underground cellars. “Thus, the nebbiolo delle Alpi returns to the womb of the very mountain that generated it,” they assert at ARPEPE. After this period, ARPEPE Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio can be savoured at the end of summer, becoming an essential wine for this season.
Make a note and don't delay in trying ARPEPE Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio. Our advice may often be off the mark, but we assure you this is not one of those times.
| 2016 | Ar.Pe.Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio 2016 is a mature wine. We have already said that you should take your time when trying this red wine properly. In principle, it is a complex wine, mixing aromas and flavours typical of long aging. Dried flowers, mountain grass, mint, citrus and cherries appear on the nose. Really quite something! Despite its volume and body on the palate, this is a fine and elegant wine, with a long journey and a saline finish. |
