About ARPEPE Rosso di Valtellina

ARPEPE Rosso di Valtellina is an oak-aged red wine crafted from the nebbiolo grape variety in the Lombardia region of Italy by the family-run winery ARPEPE.

While ARPEPE boasts a tradition spanning over 150 years, it was not until 1984, with the arrival of Arturo Pellizzatti Perego, that nebbiolos of international acclaim began to be produced. Situated in the heart of Valtellina, the legacy continues today with the same passion through the hands of his three children.

ARPEPE Rosso di Valtellina originates from several plots in Valtellina, located at an altitude of between 350 and 400 metres, planted on granite and schist soils. Environmentally friendly farming practices are employed, with yields limited to 55 hl/ha. Due to the steep hillside, the harvest is conducted manually and transported on shoulders in small baskets.

Once the grapes arrive at the winery, a meticulous selection is carried out, and the traditional vinification process of ARPEPE Rosso di Valtellina begins. The grapes are first gently crushed and left to macerate for 90 days. Following spontaneous fermentation, the wine is transferred to 50 hl foudres, where it ages for 6 months before being bottled.

ARPEPE Rosso di Valtellina is the entry-level wine of this small Valtellina winery. It presents a fine opportunity to discover a pure nebbiolo outside of Barolo.

2017 Ar.Pe.Pe. Rosso di Valtellina 2017 is a smooth red wine with delicious aromas of red fruit, floral notes and subtle spicy touches. On the palate it reveals a pronounced aftertaste with noticeable tannins and a pleasant acidity. A light and easy to drink wine with a long finish.
