About Château Pesquié Terrasses Rouge
Depending on the wine region we find ourselves in, one can observe the arrangement of vineyards in terraces. This cultivation system is employed in areas where the land is steep, making it difficult for roots to establish. Without this type of terracing in mountainous areas, vine cultivation would not be feasible. The creation of these terraces allows the vine to grow securely and facilitates better soil and water management. However, the work is significantly more expensive and requires manual labour at all times, as mechanisation is not possible. A winery that has been employing this methodology at the foot of Mont Ventoux (the highest mountain in the Provence region) since its inception in 1973 is the Chaudière family. Three generations have expertly promoted AOC Ventoux, and currently, under the stewardship of brothers Alexandre and Frédéric, it stands as one of the benchmark wineries in the region and the southern Rhône.
Among the labels they bottle in their magnificent château, Château Pesquié Terrasses Rouge is a cuvée crafted from vines over 50 years old of Garnacha Tinta and Syrah. These vines are planted in a blend of the estate's diverse terroirs at an average altitude of 300 metres, arranged in terraces situated between two worlds. On one side, they enjoy the Mediterranean sun, and on the other, the coolness of the Alps. All work is manual and organic, and since 2015, biodynamic. In the winery, the grapes are selected and destemmed, and after a gentle pressing, the must is enriched through a 15-day maceration. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and concrete tanks, and finally, 30% of the wine undergoes ageing in used French oak barrels (two to four years of use) and the remainder in foudres. Once ready, it is bottled with a natural clarification.
Inspired by the characteristic terraces, terrasses in French, that cover the wine-growing area of Ventoux, Château Pesquié Terrasses Rouge is the result of the perfect harmony between sun and altitude. A sumptuous and voluptuous wine, ideal for discovering the unique style of the Chaudière brothers.
