About Barón de Chirel
Barón de Chirel is a D.O. Rioja red wine by one of the most classic wineries in the Marqués de Riscal area.
A coupage between Tempranillo (80 percent) and other varieties (20 percent). The grapes are from a selection of very old vines, 80-110 years old, with low yields that are of very high quality.
Barón de Chirel is only produced in great vintages with a very limited production. Following its manual harvest and passage through the sorting table, it is fermented at a controlled temperatuere of 26ºC and a maceration that does exceed 12 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in wooden casks and ageing later takes place for 20 months in French oak barrels. It is refined in the bottle for at least a year before being put on the market.
2018 | Barón de Chirel 2018 is an upmarket red wine. Fully concentrated, this is a wine that should be taken in its stride and enjoyed at leisure. At first it appears a bright cherry red colour, with violet edges, which becomes very expressive. It starts on the nose, with great power and intensity, where black fruits (blueberries, blackcurrants, blackcurrants, cassis, plums, cherries), graphite, mineral touches, liquorice and blue flowers (violet) appear. Also noteworthy are the spices (cloves, pepper, cocoa, tobacco). The palate is powerful, very rich, with volume and silky texture. Lively tannins. Very long and persistent finish. Very elegant. The day after opening it improves, with fresher aromas (strawberry, raspberry) and more pleasant flavours. |
|
2008 | Exquisite and flavoursome, with an excellent acidity. Deep cherry hue with a high intensity. Fruity notes, hints of balsamic, with mineral and toasted undertones. |
|
2006 | Fresh and unctuous on the palate with smooth and clean tannins in which wood is not very present. Complex and elegant, with a lonf and balanced finish. Dark cherry, lively, without signs of evolution. High aromatic intensity together with ripe dark fruit notes, in which toasted and spiced notes from the French oak prevail. |
|
2005 | Broad attack, with a pleasant and concentrated mid palate, very meaty and dense. Low presence of wood. Soft and polished tannins. Good evolution in the mouth. Long and balanced finish. Complex and elegant wine.
Dark cherry colour, lively and bright. High robe. Good tears. Good aromatic intensity with ripe black fruit and notes of roasted and smoky provided during the ageing. Good harmony. Spicy and milky hints. |
|
2004 | In the mouth it is warm and unctuous, with a final full of sweet sensations, thanks to the outstanding maturity of the tannins. Wine of intense dark cherry color with little signs of progress. The first stroke of balsamic nose is very complex and later shown notes of leather, roasted coffee liqueur and nuances. |
