About Ktima Tselepos Blanc de Gris
Yiannis Tselepos enjoys a very close relationship with the Moschofilero variety. Instantly charmed by the Arcadia ecosystem in the Peloponnese (Greece), this Cypriot winegrower has brought back this curious native grape from oblivion, vinifying it at his Ktima Tselepos winery to produce a single-variety wine and highlight its intrinsic characteristics. This work is a contribution to reviving high quality Greek wine, especially within the AOP Neméa, the leading denomination for a Mediterranean variety that shares joy and exoticism.
The fruit of this relationship between vine and man is Ktima Tselepos Blanc de Gris, a white wine made from the vineyards that Yiannis has on his own estate at an altitude of 750 metres above sea level on sandy and clay soil. These Moschofilero vineyards are cultivated using organic principles and their yields are no more than 55 hl/ha. When the grapes reach the winery, they are soaked in cold water (10ºC) for a few hours. After pressing, vinification happens in parts: a third of the must is placed in stainless steel tanks, another portion in amphorae and the rest in foudres. Finally, the wine spends about 4 months aging in contact with its fine lees.
In short, Yiannis’ knowledge of the grape is thorough and very respectful. The Moschofilero has rewarded him for his efforts by becoming Ktima Tselepos Blanc de Gris, a wine that stands out for its exciting acidity and abundant delicate and exotic fragrances.
